Recently, I began to focus on how I might start helping women heal. The first thing I realized we had to do is to gather in some way and really feel our feelings.
As human beings, we are filled with emotions, but we do not always sense that we have permission to express our emotions.
For some people, denying their emotions can be deadly. It can result in severe mental illness and breakdowns. The energy inside us needs a place to go. We can create a sacred alchemy with our emotions and let that energy become a healing force. Or we can suppress our emotions, turn to substances or addictions, or develop unhealthy behaviors that distract us from what is really going on inside.
I don’t know about you, but I believe in angels, and I always have. Sometimes, if we’re lucky, little flurries of events will happen around us that may make us realize the magic of our world, and the magic inside us and other people. When we can accept our emotions fully, and hold space for how we feel with the higher Self taking root inside us—we can begin to live into the magic of our lives, even in very difficult situations. Through our own inward journeys, we can experience the angelic nature of others, and become angels on earth, to help others.
The Paper Cup was a publication I envisioned in a notebook, way back in 2013. (I have so many notebooks of ideas. Too many!) The focus was developing spiritual openness, and learning about the divine feminine inside us. It was about accepting and embracing the journeys of our lives and learning from our experiences. It was also about bonding as women—particularly for mothers.
And the title, The Paper Cup, is based on one of my favorite songs from Tori Amos: “Silent All These Years.”
“My scream got lost in a paper cup. Do you think there’s a heaven where some screams have gone?”
When I was in middle school, and high school, and college, and then living on my own as a teacher, and then having babies…. Well, Tori Amos’s music was with me, guiding me the way a priestess or shepherd guides her flock. I am much richer inside than I was in those early decades of my life, but I am definitely the same person, with the same sense of purpose, the same interests, and the same artistic soul. And I have always felt that giving expression to what was inside me was instrumental in my living an authentic life. The paradox is—I often end up in places where I am not allowed to give expression.
I assume that you, reader, have been in places like that, too.
I hope you will follow along on this adventure that will hopefully sometimes take us off-line and in-person, or on Zoom, in addition to weekly posts. I hope you will learn about healing work through this new endeavor. This is for people who are looking for a place to let things out, become free, and learn how to live fully and with authenticity. (Whether you are a woman, man, or non-binary person exploring this more feminine side I offer—you are all welcome!)
